What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business coach and advisor. I help business owners find the money they are leaving on the table and transition to the next stage of their business without feeling they are in it alone. A lot of business owners feel like they are in business by themselves. I help show them that while they may be in business for themselves, they don't have to be by themselves. Together, we move their business from where it currently is, to where they want it to be, whether that is growing to the next level or even setting up an exit strategy.

Tell us about yourself

I got to the top of my profession before I was 40. It was then that I realized what I truly enjoyed was making other businesses and people successful. Having built and restructured successful companies in the corporate world, I now apply that same knowledge to help small business owners with their business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I helped a client go from a regional company to a national company, growing 400% over eight years. They had a great offer. I helped build the relationships with the national companies they needed to work with to grow their business and be one of the leaders in the industry.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Again, realize that while you may work for yourself, you don't need to be by yourself. Your business grows more than you realize when you partner with other business owners.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your value proposition. It needs to be in your prospect's voice, not in yours. There is a simple way to do this.
  2. Understand what sales are. If the word "sales" makes you uneasy, then you don't fully understand what it is.
  3. Build a referral network with businesses that have the same clients that you have, but you don't compete with that you offer.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I wrote a book on sales for business owners. The theme is it is all common sense, but when common sense becomes common practice, that is when you find success.
