What's your business, and who are your customers?
Roaming Spices is a hiking blog created with the purpose of encouraging individuals from all around the world to embrace this wonderful natural pastime and take advantage of the physical, mental and social benefits that it presents.
Tell us about yourself
We have always had a huge passion for the natural world and love exploring it on foot wherever we go. We decided to start documenting our hikes online as a way of sharing our experiences and highlighting the wonders that are out there. In a world with high levels of disconnection from nature and increasing mental health issues, we realized that enticing individuals into the great outdoors could help alleviate these problems. When we publish our hiking trail guides, it is immensely rewarding when people undertake a hike and share their appreciation of the memories created from their experience as a result. This helps fuel our desire to hike more, write more and draw more people into this physically, socially, and mentally stimulating outdoor recreation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment in the online business world is that we are 100% self-taught. With this knowledge, we have succeeded in building an ever-developing website that is now reaching tens of thousands of visitors each month and has attracted a team of fellow content creators from around the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The toughest thing about running Roaming Spices is that we both have full-time jobs also. Therefore, our evenings and weekends are dedicated to this increasingly demanding business in the limited time at our disposal. Thankfully, we love what we do, which makes it all worthwhile!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you love what you do.
- Do your research, devise a plan, never stop learning, and don't give up.
- Focus your efforts on what you do best and delegate the tasks that you don't.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
As business owners, you will typically work harder and longer than you ever did in a job. Therefore, make sure you are passionate about it!
