Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marian Mitchell, Founder of Road To Living Whole, LLC., located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Founder of my practice, Road to Living Whole, and Host of the podcast Therapeutic Food Solutions. I help women who are struggling with autoimmune disease or chronic illness master the food and lifestyle strategies they need to live symptom-free.

I do this through one-on-one coaching and self-paced courses and include lots of delicious and simple recipes in meal plans.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a mom of 2, a chronic illness warrior, and a lover of food. After trying every diet out there, trying to resolve my own autoimmune disease and other chronic illnesses I had going on, and finally figuring it out, I wanted to help others learn what I had learned in mere months versus the years it had taken me.

It's literally why I do what I do. Not only do I know what you need to eat and lifestyle strategies that are effective in symptom management, I know how to help people effectively change their lifestyle to sustain these strategies so they can experience lasting and vibrant health. No one should ever have to suffer that long when the solution is known.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is truly helping people feel better. My job, and one I take seriously, is to help people make over the way they eat and live to nourish their body, mind, and soul so they can live the life they dream of. I get to do that every day, and it's incredible.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Oh gosh, this is a great question. The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is that everything rides on you. Your consistency, your ability to learn and apply what you learn, learning how to keep your business legal, bringing in the money necessary to cover the bills, it all rides on you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

This one is much easier to answer.

  1. Just start. It doesn't have to be perfect, and it won't be, so just start.
  2. Be consistent in whatever you do. You can't do it all, so pick the one or two things you can do consistently and do them. You have to show up for yourself, so people who are looking to buy what you are offering know you'll show up for them.
  3. Apply what you learn. It's easy to read blogs and books, go to conferences, and even hire a coach, but if you aren't applying what you learn, you won't go anywhere.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The personal growth from owning and growing your own business is the most uncomfortable yet rewarding process a person can go through. For those of us who have that deep-rooted desire to change the world with the solutions we offer, it's just such an incredible opportunity to grow into better people.

It's not easy, but it's so worth it.
