Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Regina Starks, founder of RM Starks Coaching, located in Florissant, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is RM Starks Coaching. As a life coach, I incorporate much of my own life experiences in my sessions, including a variety of elements that often make a difference in my approach. These elements range from small business coaching, career development, and/or Life enrichment. My clients are adults who are willing to acknowledge, make changes, and most importantly, are ready to do the work.

Tell us about yourself

I will have to say that experience is my best teacher, and that is what got me started in this industry. Leaving home at the age of 16, I have been involved in several different things that have prepared me for this time in my life. While my focus was never college, my entrepreneurial mindset started at age 18 when I purchased my first home. I jumped into real estate and property investments, and from there, other business opportunities emerged that ranged from travel agent, life insurance, Avon, and opening a women's shoe store, Shoe Therapy.

No matter how many times life has knocked me down, I have remained a motivated individual with a determination to succeed. My life experiences have allowed me to relate to others' ambitions and their struggles. I truly love helping and inspiring people to overcome whatever obstacle that stands in their way and prevents them from living their best life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is testimonials. Whether shared on the website or on social media platforms, these are the reminders of why I started coaching. It is so rewarding to know that a meeting/session with me has positively impacted someone's life for the better. My goal is to always motivate, encourage, hold accountable and assist those in living the best life they choose.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a life coach, my passion and enthusiasm for my work overshadow the value I place on my services, and many times, I find myself in sessions that have not been scheduled or invoiced.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take on a positive mindset. If fear is holding you back, do it afraid, as you will never know what you could do or be if you do not try.
  2. Marketing is essential to any business. Be sure to advertise your services, attend/participate in vendor fairs, maintain a social media presence, and never forget that word of mouth is the best form of advertisement.
  3. Integrity is another key component of business, and it demonstrates values of trust, honesty, dependability, compassion, and respect. All things that customers are seeking and enhance your reputation by word of mouth.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

When seeking out a life coach, be sure the coach offers a "taster" session as coaches are not a size fits all. You want to ensure that you find the right coach for your needs prior to making any payment or long-term commitments.
