Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lynda Spiegel, Owner of Rising Star Resumes, located in Forest Hills, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I develop human voice resumes and LinkedIn profiles for mid-career professionals that differentiate them from other candidates and showcase their value proposition.

Tell us about yourself

In my early 60s, I was unemployed for the first time and faced ageism when interviewing. Then it occurred to me that as a Human Resources executive, I had more experience with recruiting than other resume writers, so I decided to start my own business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Developing the confidence to increase my fees - and not getting any pushback for them!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The need to continually market the business while actually doing client projects.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself - imposter syndrome helps no one.
  2. Stay one step ahead of competitors, but consider them colleagues.
  3. Client referrals are organic marketing - so make sure clients are satisfied.
