What's your business, and who are your customers?
Rise Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine provides services of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Intuitive Body & Mind Scanning in our physical location in Frisco, Colorado, and online to the whole world. We specialize in emotional, sleep, gynecological, digestive, and auto-immune disorders, as well as acute and chronic pains.
Tell us about yourself
Holistic Medicine has been key to my own well-being in my journey through dis-ease and mental health. Ten years ago, I left a position of leadership in my career in architecture to dedicate myself to a new career that would not just bring me joy, fulfillment, and wealth but also allow me to express my essence and be one with all the other aspects of me. I wanted to be fascinated about something; that was my Eat Pray Love moment.
I have had so much help in my life from acupuncturists, so when the thought came to me, and I started to consider going to Chinese Medicine School, the excitement, curiosity, and the vision of me helping others feel better were enough pull, and soon enough, there I was, back at school, in my 40s. I don't think I will ever stop being fascinated by the wonder and wisdom of Eastern natural medicine!
So today, I can say I fully love my job. But also that my career is part of me, my family, my joy, and my daily life. There are no versions of Renata, the professional, the mother, or the wife; I feel unified in all aspects of me, and all aspects of me are influenced by a holistic way of being.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating Rise Acupuncture from the ground up by myself, cultivating it, and seeing it grow was a huge accomplishment. Rise is my baby, and I appreciate the incredible growth that it allowed me to endure in the process. But the feeling I get when I help my patients reach breakthroughs in their lives and health is the most precious form of accomplishment I have ever had and felt in my life, and it never gets old. It makes me feel like I'm helping the world be a better place.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
If there is one aspect of being a small business owner that I can honestly say it's still a struggle for me is the lack of consistency. In my case, that came in the form of changes in patient numbers and revenue due to the pandemic, due to moving towns, and inconsistent patterns of insurance payments. These are the not-so-pretty aspects of business that I am still mastering and learning to appreciate. The biggest lesson to me so far has been to detach from the false sense of safety that some aspects of life used to bring me, like a steady corporate job and paycheck, and trust that I am supported and will always be provided for, simply because I'm sowing goodness, and my work in my community is of high value.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you are planning on starting a business today, I would suggest you find a mentor or coach or several. Join a community where you can ask for help and are not shy to express your struggles. Owning a business is not easy and should not be a lonely journey.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I'd like to share that my professional journey has taught me so much about my own life and how I want to spend my days on this beautiful planet. I share this with most of my patients, about slowing down, connecting with nature, being present, savoring all the flavors life brings us, riding the waves and basking in the calm, letting go, surrendering, about embracing every single opportunity to experience life and all that it is. I think that is my purpose in life, and I love doing it.
