What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business calls Rio Samba Dancer. We offer dance classes and dance tours in Rio de Janeiro. We receive couples, solo travelers, and families from all over the world who would like to know a little bit about Brazilian Culture. We teach basic samba steps, and after, we take everyone to practice the samba moves in a samba club with a live samba band.
Tell us about yourself
I had that idea 12 years ago because I love dancing and travel. So I think when people visit Rio de Janeiro, I can take them to dance. Every review and feedback motivates me to improve and makes me happy to see I'm helping people to enjoy my city and the holiday.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Be able to delegate, travel, and manage the business from anywhere in the world.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Trust people and make sure they will keep the high standard of the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I would say if you have a passion for something and you can see a way to make money and share this passion with somebody. I recommend you go forward with that.
- In the beginning, you need some income to develop the business, so work for somebody if your parents can't help you. Work on your business in parallel until you grow it.
- Persistent - work at least one hour per day on your idea, and you will see the results in the long term.
- Don't let anyone put you down. You are the one who is going to make your business happen and grow.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
After 12 years of running my business, I realized a few things. Nobody will take care of the business like you, you can delegate, but people will do it in their own way, especially if you are far away.
Learn if feedback, the customer is your boss. Every review you should read with attention and learn something.
