Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tony Wiedenski, Founder and CEO of RevUp Sales LLC., located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

RevUp Sales LLC helps companies increase profitability. We focus on optimizing your sales process so your sales team (large or small) can sell more effectively. It's about creating a fine-tuned revenue-generating engine as a means to grow before adding more people. Our customers tend to fall into a few different categories:

  1. Early-stage startups. Companies who have just received a Seed, Series A, or Series B funding round. They have just hired their first sales leader or are about to hire their first sales leader.
  2. Established businesses with one to a few salespeople who want to help their salespeople be more effective.
  3. Large distributors and manufacturers with outdated sales processes and high operating costs.

We deliver all of the expertise on a fractional basis, so companies do not have the cost of a full-time employee(s).

Tell us about yourself

I started the business from my own experience as a sales leader. As the head of sales at a startup or lean sales organization, you are asked to do everything from marketing to operations, coaching the team, and selling. This makes it very difficult to do everything to the best of your ability. When it comes to growing and scaling the business, adding more people is not always the answer. Why not focus on the sales process and existing people to drive growth first? Once your sales process is repeatable and predictable, you can add more people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

After two months in, my biggest accomplishment is just doing it. My focus on networking has allowed me to meet new potential clients. It's also been rewarding to help others where I can.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is uncertainty. Staying focused, grounded, and having a clear plan for success every day is critical.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it already.
  2. Accomplish 1-3 important items each day. After a week or a month, you will have accomplished a lot! Don't overwhelm yourself with a long to-do list every day.
  3. Learn from others. Help others when you can. Seek advice. Be a sponge to new ideas.
