Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Martin Pan, Clinic Director of Revolve Therapy Health Services, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Revolve Therapy Health Services is a multi-disciplinary clinic offering acupuncture and massage therapy. Our goal is to help people realize their potential and restore their healthy selves through our patient-focused therapists. As I was finishing my last year in the Canadian Armed Forces, I woke up one day in extensive pain caused by numerous muscular and skeletal injuries during my time in the army. After the continuous disappointment of my personal experiences, as cliche as it sounds, I got inspired to provide a platform with reliable and effective treatments.

Tell us about yourself

After working as a nonregistered practitioner for a few years and 4000+ hours of experience later, I believe I can branch out and start something I can call my own. Throughout this experience, the capability of assisting and making a difference in the lives of thousands of people truly keeps me going through even the hardest days.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment I have as a business owner is actually surprisingly small. Each time we are able to provide substantial relief to a patient with debilitating pain, the staffs at Revolve Therapy Health Services feel a boost of happiness and solid validation of our skills and abilities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I have experienced is when a patient cancels an appointment or does not book future appointments. I understand that we are supposed to not take these occurrences personally. However, it always strikes something deep as if we did not achieve the patient's expectation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first thing I would recommend would be to understand what your financial and entrepreneurial abilities truly are. The maintenance and marketing costs definitely crept up on me. Secondly, realize entrepreneurship is a very time-consuming endeavor. There are days when I would spend up to 20 hours a day in the office for administrative tasks. Lastly, establish your mission statement and how you can add value to the clients' life. That is how you will stand out in a sea of competitors.
