Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Nash, Co-Founder of Revisit Wine Company, located in Santa Ynez, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Revisit Wine Co. is a quarterly wine club featuring the best boutique wineries in Santa Barbara County. Our customers are wine-lovers who like high-quality wines from small producers at reasonable prices. We also offer customized wine packages that make excellent corporate and personal gifts!

Tell us about yourself

We launched our business in 2018 after fulfilling a dream to move to Santa Ynez wine country. After leaving our "corporate" jobs, we wanted to share our passion for the unique wine from this lesser-known wine region with friends and family. We're excited when people try the wines we offer. Love them, and recommend them to their friends!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment was taking the leap from having a steady income to starting our own business and sticking with it through the challenges of a start-up!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's increasingly difficult to get the word out about our business in the crowded social media space, especially when you don't have a large budget. Most of our growth has come purely from word-of-mouth, but it does limit growth - it's still a challenge!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient - growing your business takes time, especially with the level of competition for peoples' attention. Prepare yourself for the long haul, mentally and financially.
  2. Know your customers - This is Marketing 101...find out what they really value and deliver it, then provide GREAT customer service.
  3. Don't be afraid to change your model - where you end up could be very different from where you start. Be open to adapting to the market as it is constantly changing!
