Lead Your Organization to Success - Reverie

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in organizational development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Miller, Co-Founder of Reverie, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Reverie is an organizational development consulting firm. Our clients are small to midsize businesses across various industries.

Tell us about yourself

I was a bossy little girl, and I hated the word no. 40+ years later, I'm a decisive woman who gets strategic (and sometimes creative) to find a path to 'yes.' Small business is in my blood. I want all small to midsize business owners to have access to the same consultative resources the bigger companies have. These organizations are built on endless sacrifices, countless hours, and many hardworking people. Nobody deserves success more than the small business owner. Showing up for our clients to help them achieve their goals definitely motivates me to do what I do. I'm a professional wing woman. There is nothing I love more than being there to help them celebrate the small and big wins.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every year we create a yearbook to track our accomplishments. It's a fun way to keep track of all of our most proud moments. With that said, taking the initial leap to start the company with my partner, Jaid, is my biggest accomplishment. Business owners have to overcome a lot to even make it that far. I'm really grateful to have had the faith, optimism, and guts to make that jump!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Responsibility is hard. Period. Throw in really difficult decisions that must be made urgently, and it can feel paralyzing. It is so important to surround yourself with people you trust and respect. Loneliness is super common, but it doesn't need to be that way. A support system that truly understands makes all the difference.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take action. It is important to take small steps forward every day. Take advantage of the momentum when it's there, and on the days you just want to give up, do one small thing to make progress. The excitement will come back.
  2. Plan ahead. Visualize, dream, read, journal - do all of the things to ensure you've thought through your business from various angles. You'll likely save a lot of time and money simply by putting together a thoughtful business plan.
  3. Get to Yes! There will be several rejections during the process. There is a "yes" right around the corner from every "no." You just have to find a way to get there. Whatever happens, just don't stop.
