Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Keta Dodds, Founder of Revelation Wellness, LLC, located in Cary, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is a virtual functional medicine practice- geared toward helping families discover the root causes of ADHD and gut/brain balance. As a functional medicine pharmacist, I believe there is more than one treatment option for diseases and disorders. Medication is often chosen as the first and only option to help with the symptoms. When we develop symptoms, our bodies are trying to tell us there are imbalances. We should work to find those imbalances and correct them instead of using the medication as a band-aid.

Tell us about yourself

My son had some focus issues, so we contacted several specialists. The only option offered was medication. After two years of medications and side effects, I learned there was another way. Through several functional lab tests, we could pinpoint the imbalances and work to correct them. My son has been medication-free and thriving for over two years. Knowing that I can really help someone feel better and help them to find wellness in themselves is what motivates me to keep learning.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fear of success is often bigger than the fear of failure. This was definitely true in my situation. I didn't have the confidence I needed to step out and go for it. I had a great support group of family and friends that believed in me and kept pushing me forward. I'm so thankful I did. God gave me this passion, and I'm thrilled that I can share it with others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Ahhh, the actual business side. Keeping up with expenses, revenue, taxes, etc. Prepping social media posts.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your support- A good support group is key for days when you have obstacles or setbacks. These are the people that believe in you through it all and can help lift your spirit when you need it.
  2. Do one thing each day that supports your business- one step forward- even if it is a small step. Write a social media post, a blog, or work on networking or your website.
  3. Don't forget to take care of yourself. We can often put our heads down and plow through day after day- but taking a break and doing something you enjoy is key to rejuvenating and reset. For me- it's remembering the verse God put on my heart- Psalm 37:4. The desires in my heart are from Him, and He will make the way ahead.
