Tell us about yourself

I have spent most of my life and career seeking to inspire people and organizations to be the very best they can be! I spent the first eleven years of my career receiving a world-class education as an executive leader at a prominent fortune 500 retail company. Subsequently, I ventured to start my own retail company selling wireless phones and accessories.

As president and CEO, I grew the business from a single store to over fifty locations, employing over 250 people across five states in just ten years. Hit hard by the “Great Recession” of 2008, I fought back and successfully transitioned the business from direct distribution to a franchise-like model empowering entrepreneurs to own and operate their own wireless retail stores. After selling the wireless business in 2014, my wife, Pam, was diagnosed with breast cancer. The cancer battle that ensued lasted over two years, and together Pam and I fought not only cancer but also phenomena and heart failure caused by chemotherapy.

This life-altering experience was a wake-up call for me and helped solidify what has become my “WHY” in life. That is, “To empower people to understand and fulfill their God-given purpose!” Since then, I have founded the REV Advisory Group to carry out this mission.

I am also an active member of my local community serving on the local advisory board for Hope International. I commit my time, treasure, and talent to my local church and various other non-profits. I currently serve as the chair of Edina Rotary Club’s Leadership Development program. My wife Pam and I have been married for over 35 years, and together we have two beautiful daughters and two grandsons. We currently reside in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, metro area.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting and operating a business from scratch that helped develop and inspire dozens of entrepreneurial leaders who now have become founders themselves or are leading in various capacities in a plethora of different companies around the country.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The responsibility to provide value to and to positively influence people. That is all the stakeholders who depend on you... i.e., clients, employees, vendors, and their families.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. ALIGN: Align your company's mission and values with your own.
  2. PLAN: Develop a business plan and seek counsel from experts before launching out and along the way.
  3. VALUE: Value people and relationships above all else. It is always who first and then what!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have coined this simple phrase to sum up my philosophy when it comes to developing individual and/or corporate excellence: "We are at our best when we are doing work we enjoy with people we trust to accomplish something that matters!"
