Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Derek Anderson, Owner, and CEO of Results Fitness Mobile, located in El Dorado Hills, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We work with active adults to thrive in health and wellness. We work with businesses to provide our wellness programs to their employees so both sides can win. We help the employee live a stress-free, healthy, and active lifestyle while the business can lower their health insurance costs, absentee rate, and productivity costs, all while increasing their employee retention. We are different from other corporate wellness programs because we put a strong emphasis on mental health and injury prevention. Most wellness companies focus on the basics, such as weight loss, smoking cessation, and muscle gain. We focus on these things too, but we take an individualized approach so each person can improve their lives and achieve their or goals. We offer personal coaching with a coach that is relatable to the client, a video platform, a private mobile app, nutrition advice, mental health resources, digital programs, in-person programs, and 24/7 access.

Tell us about yourself

I have always had a passion for health & wellness since youth. At nine years old, my parents bought me a dumbbell set for my birthday, and it took off from there. I also struggled with depression, anxiety, and insomnia, which turned out to be a huge gift. After graduating with a degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management, I decided to take all that I have learned and went through as an opportunity to help others. I am currently 33 years old, and I have been training my entire adult life since I was 18. In 2020, I decided to expand Results Fitness Mobile, become an S. Corporation, and expand my reach to helping people on a global scale. I decided to change from a B2C to a B2B company in order to reach more people and help as many people thrive as possible. What motivates me is greatness. I strive to create the top wellness company in the world that focuses on all aspects of health, not just basic concepts such as weight loss. I want to help people with injuries, mental health issues, personal goals, and anything you can think of. I know I can have a unique and individualized impact on everyone that we can reach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Gratitude. As a business owner with no mentors, I am grateful for everyone we have been able to reach and for everything we have accomplished so far. A while ago, I would have been upset that we are not bigger, but that is losing the message and guidance we are trying to provide. I am grateful for the lives I have impacted and improved, regardless of the scale of the audience. Outside of gratitude, Our biggest accomplishment has been the amount of amazing content and digital programs we have created and made available worldwide. It is a really great feeling to see our products being used not just in the USA but globally in other places such as Kenya, Singapore, and India. We also are proud to have a niche in the construction industry, helping the hard-working members of that industry heal their back pain and other injuries and mental toughness strains brought upon them from late nights and hard physical work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, It has been not having a mentor. Anything you set out to do, any goal, it was hard to understand that you have to let go of timelines to reach those goals. There are always obstacles and other barriers popping up that I never even considered. Every day there is a new challenge, test, or problem to solve. I used to hate this, but I love it now because it is like a giant puzzle, and it gives me the opportunity to push myself. But defiantly, the biggest challenge is not knowing the next roadblock and then having to figure a way around it or through it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You can't fail if you don't give up. Take every challenge head-on and use your will to find a way through it.
  2. Do something every day that gets you a step closer to your goals. It is a marathon, not a sprint, stay persistent and let go of the outcome. Stay in the moment and keep working, and you will get there...I am still trying to get there.
  3. Keep your passion. If you love what you are doing and are passionate about it, you will succeed, and you will make a difference in the world. The most important thing is helping others and providing value; if you do that, you will succeed.
