Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Vaughn Sigmon, co-founder of Results Driven Leadership, located in Huntington Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Productivity winning strategies and aligning employer & employee goals. Suppose this sounds like something your audience could use; results-driven Leadership is ready to share their knowledge, skills, and tools to help you jumpstart your business.

Scaling your company requires the ability to scale your people. We provide you with the art of management and leadership that sets you up for steady long-term successful growth through each of the Results-Driven Programs. We provide training with extensive in-person guided interactive discussions or self-paced online training. Our classroom training includes exercises and performance self-assessments supported by a "Real World" curriculum. All of this is taught by real executives, not academics, who have implemented these principles successfully themselves.

Tell us about yourself

After early retirement from my executive role at CarMax, I had the drive to create a passionate business based on my most significant strength. That is developing managers into leaders. I spent years curating materials, programs, and tools that are all based on real-world learning. In fact, I wanted most to learn from my mistakes and the mistakes I saw many others make. Those are often our best lessons. Many great employees are promoted into the role of manager and left to figure out how to manage people all on their own. That trial and error method of learning rarely works and, in fact, has created a huge challenge in the business world.

Surveys from Gallup and other sources indicate that over 70% of employees in the workforce today would change jobs tomorrow because of poor leadership by their manager. Further, over 50% of the workforce sites the reason for leaving a company for a new job is because of an ineffective or weak manager. The good news is that it can all be fixed. My Results-Driven Leadership Management Training programs provide the fundamental and the higher-level skills and tools for managers to flourish, not flounder.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm proud of so many things, but the one thing is the positive impact I've had on so many of my training and coaching clients. I love watching them learn and grow. Many of the businesses I work with have remained clients for years, and I've been able to see most more than double in size and scale. That is so rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying on top of all the many things a business owner must manage. Sales, marketing, finance, strategies, taxes, etc.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always remember that no matter what business you're in, you're in the people business.
  2. Have a plan, put it into writing, and regularly review it with a trusted advisor. Businesses with a written plan are 800% more likely to succeed than those without. It's an amazing stat but true.
  3. Always understand that behaviors create your results: your own and any of your employees. Pay attention to the numbers. They will indicate what behaviors are working well and which need to be modified. Don't manage numbers; manage behaviors.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have an uncanny ability to get under the hood of business problems. Almost always, they are people's problems. Those people's problems can create an enormous impact on businesses. I love to talk through these challenges with businesspeople and managers. I'm very open to getting a conversation started and helping with a strategy to improve your challenges.
