Interested in starting your own coaching journey, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mike MacConnell of Reflective Mediation, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

What's your business and who are your customers?

I offer conflict resolution services in 3 formats: private coaching, mediation sessions, and small group workshops. My clients are primarily families and small businesses.

Tell us about yourself

The conflict of my own divorce woke me up to the need to approach conflict more mindfully, so I wrote a book -  The Yoga of Divorce. And studied until I became certified as a family mediator and workplace mediator.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Watching parents who hate one another to become effective, respectful communicators when I have completed their separation agreement. Occasionally, they even decide to get back together once they've begun listening to one another.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Generating new client calls. Once they call, it's okay. Getting them to pick up the phone is very challenging.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get former clients, family, and friends to write 5-star reviews on google my business.
  2. Get a great website and write blogs regularly.
  3. Keep training and working on yourself to become a better and better practitioner.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Work on your own personal growth and practice self-care so you can be the healthiest person you can be -  for yourself, your family, and your clients.
