What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an Empowerment Life Coach giving support, encouragement, and guidance to people who have lost their zest and vision in life or have succumbed to disabling grief, depression, or anxiety.
Tell us about yourself
I married my first love at 20 yrs of age, and over a span of 22 yrs, we had 12 children. I was privileged to be able to be a stay-at-home mom and not only take care of the home and my children but also homeschool each one of them. My husband was a logger, and in March 2020, he was tragically killed in the woods. This immediately put me in the role of breadwinner for my family, and so I decided to pursue something I had considered doing for many years. That week, I enrolled in Life Coach training.
I had a lot of things to figure out and resolve with my husband's business as well as support my children in the loss of their father and work through my own grief, as well. So it wasn't until the end of that year that I finally had my website completed and was ready to launch my business and begin life coaching. My children have been my main motivation to do well in this business, to face life with courage and a smile, and to share that element of love and strength with my clients. I also want to make my husband proud and honor him by continuing to live well and fulfill the dreams he wasn't able to complete in his lifetime.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider my biggest and most gratifying accomplishment to be watching my clients get stabilized in their life and feel empowered again to move confidently forward on their own. It's so fulfilling to observe them diligently do the work to get their life and perspective back on track and feel the inner shift as well as the obvious, practical results in their lives. For years I nurtured and poured myself into my own children and have reaped the huge reward of watching them become amazing, responsible adults. Now I get to pour some of that same nurturing energy into my clients and feel rewarded for their successes.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
For a business owner, there are the joys of success, but there are always times when something isn't going as planned, and self-doubt begins to creep in. Those questions like, "Who am I to think I can do this?" "What if everything comes to a complete halt?" "Am I qualified??"… it's all those "what if" questions that you have to routinely put at bay and keep believing in yourself, your vision, and your initial motivation in beginning your business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- From the moment you wake up, start your day with gratitude. Then intentionally and positively affirm how you want your day to unfold in your personal life as well as in your business. You are the creator of your day and your business.
- You don't attract in life what you want. You attract what you are. So make sure you prioritize all the things that make you a high-value, grounded person… A leader with strong confidence, positivity, and kindness. These can be things as simple as getting adequate sleep, exercise, solitude, etc.
- Keep your passion and love for your business alive by remembering your reasons for beginning, not routinely overworking yourself, and don't get in a rut. Continuing to change or implement things into your business occasionally to keep it interesting and fun for you!
