What's your business, and who are your customers?
RedSilk Media Group is a woman-owned, black-owned business founded in 2006 by Creative Director Chandra L. Pinto Martinez. RedSilk Media Group originally opened its doors in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and specializes in all areas of marketing research, strategy, and implementation, multimedia design, business branding, and development. RedSilk Media Group also offers professional development courses, along with staff and individual coaching.

Tell us about yourself
Ms. Martinez is the mother of two children, who is the reason behind everything she does, including opening her own business. And a lover of art, nature, and music. Her daughter has special needs, which prevented her from obtaining and maintaining full-time employment. This would discourage some, but for her, it inspired her to do more, go out, and try to create something that would provide for her family.
Ms. Chandra L. Pinto Martinez founded RedSilk Media Group in 2006 under its previous name Divine Design Graphics. In 2016 the name was changed to reflect the growth of the company and its expansion into varying areas of the greater mass media, communication, and marketing industry. Beginning as a way to provide for a small family, it quickly blossomed into a company that would provide for multiple families that it would eventually employ.
A fighter and survivor, Ms. Martinez is originally from Baton Rouge, LA, and relocated to Anderson, South Carolina, after having lost her home and business in the flood in 2016. Later in 2019 she relocated to Florence, SC, and reopened her business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
RedSilk Media Group has seen significant growth and has established locations in Baton Rouge, LA, Florence & Columbia, SC, and in 2023 will be opening a new branch in Raleigh, NC. Ranking number 14 out of almost 200 marketing agencies statewide in South Carolina is one of our greatest achievements.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The most challenging and difficult moments are those right before growth comes along and right after frustration begins. Obstacles from natural disasters such as floods and hurricanes to the most recent health crisis we saw with COVID-19 to finding reliable talent and dependable vendors are all part of the course. But these things, when endured with grace, can be overcome, and the experience only benefits us to become better and greater at who we are, who we serve, what we do, how we do it, and how we serve.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
"Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do." ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
We say we are willing to do whatever it takes to make it, but often we fail to act and do what is necessary. The mistake, then, is having a dream without the necessary determination to make that dream a reality. This takes work! Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It takes persistence to preserve and pursue that which everyone else tells you no to. It takes courage to continue down a path less traveled. And it takes self-motivation and determination to do what others only dreamed of doing. Go, Learn, Do, Teach, Repeat.
