Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverages but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily O'Brien, Founder, and CEO of Comeback Snacks, located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Gourmet popcorn- our customers are everyone who wants to achieve their own comeback or inspire one in others.

Tell us about yourself

Having a purpose. I started Comeback Snacks when I was incarcerated with the goal of helping employ others after prison while helping eliminate the stigma of the formerly incarcerated.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Winning the YWCA's Woman of Distinction Award in 2020 for Business and Entrepreneurship.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to find enough hours in a day. Actually, it's learning to accept that you won't always get everything done and not let that frustrate you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be learning. Read books, watch videos, go to events.
  2. Invest in help in your weak areas.
  3. Use your lived experience and tie it into your purpose.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I find it not about trying to "find a balance." In entrepreneurship, balance doesn't exist. Unless it's balancing the books. You have to get used to chaos and learn how to thrive in it.
