Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in advertising services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mayo Sowemimo, Executive Director of Red Moon Creatives, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a creative advertising agency that advertises differently and with purpose. We specialize in helping brands become relentlessly relevant to 21st-century customers through a full range of integrated digital advertising services and creative designs that work beautifully and promote on social media, the web, and other media.
Tell us about yourself
My mentor once told me that the greatest skill I can have in life is knowing how and when to adjust. After finishing university studies in a completely unrelated field, I fell in love with music, which led me to videography, and since 2012 have been helping businesses to become seen, heard, and understood through Red Moon Creatives. Videography was the beginning, and with the addition of our amazing creative director (Dania Aboaoun) and the growth of the team, we have expanded to strategic branding, engaging visual media, and professional design. At the end of the day, it's all about people! Every client and partner has a unique story, and it's always a pleasure to meet new people and help guide them on their way to showcasing their stories.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the satisfaction and positive feedback we receive during and after each project is completed with a client. We believe in collaboration and co-creation with our clients, so when the goal is achieved, both sides feel a sense of accomplishment because we were all involved together from the start.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is balancing work, family, friends, hobbies, etc. Time management is vital for having the right emotional and physical energy to suspend each part of life.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't operate out of fear. Risks and mistakes are a part of any success story.
- Be open to adjusting and pivoting.
- Never stop learning. Always take time to 'upgrade' your knowledge and stay up to date on your product, business, or industry.
