What's your business, and who are your customers?

We support young adults (18-30-year-olds) in the process of building healthy, productive lives. We do this by providing psychotherapy and life coaching services tailored to each client's specific needs.

Tell us about yourself

I've long been interested in the processes of human change and how nature/wilderness can facilitate this change. Thus, I spent 20 years in the wilderness therapy industry before starting Red Cedar Transitions.

Although the setting has changed (we're not in the wilderness), the abiding passion for being a change agent in the lives of our clients hasn't.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To continue to provide our much-needed services while building (and being a part of) a dedicated, innovative team.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a small business owner, one wears many hats (i.e., marketing, providing direct care to clients, staff recruitment and training, etc.). While having this multitude of duties can be invigorating and interesting, it can also feel overwhelming and draining.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a good coach/mentor to consult with.
  2. Go out of your way to hire the best team possible, and then allow as much freedom as possible in their roles on the team.
  3. If there are any concerns about how to scale a new business, start small and work your way to where you want to be.
