Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Leigh Wager, Founder of ReBld Co. Health & Wellness, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

ReBld Co is health & nutrition coaching, helping people be proactive in preventing disease and enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. We work with individuals who are ready to stop stressing over what they should do, such as diet, workout, sleep, steps, and lifestyle, and start loving the way they live.

Tell us about yourself

I started working on my business after my own journey through the health system when I was pregnant and postpartum. I had worked in healthcare technology for almost a decade, where we focus on behavior change, patient engagement, and empowerment, yet I would leave my MD's office with a list of recommendations and not a lot of support. Meanwhile, I saw friends stopping everything, not knowing what they should do, and feeling miserable. Fast forward a few years, I dug into health coaching and nutrition and discovered not only the benefits for pregnancy and postpartum but how a healthy lifestyle can make a significant impact on your day-to-day life, your mental health, and mood, and the impact of long-term chronic conditions. The knowledge that those lifestyle changes, which are simple yet hard to implement, can make such an impact is what keeps me going. My goal is to cut through the noise and support anyone in making long-term, sustainable lifestyle changes that they love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building a network of other business owners and finding help. It can be scary to ask for help and invest in the help, but it's essential for success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making decisions independently can be challenging -- there's nobody else that cares to the same extent that you do, and if you want to do everything, you need to prioritize. That can be hard to do on your own, which is why the network from above is so important!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started. That's the #1 thing. If you don't start today, you'll just be starting here tomorrow, too. When I first started, I had all these questions, concerns, and "what-ifs," -- but without starting, I'd never answer those.
  2. Focus, move quickly, and then exclude or keep going. There are so many options - just choose one and see if it works. If it does, great, keep going. If it doesn't, learn that quickly and then move on to your next option.
  3. Find support. I've joined a few different coaching groups - some have been great, some were great - but not targeted for me. Regardless, find the support and the network.
