Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Lassiter, Founder of Rebecca Lassiter Photography, located in Kansas City, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a portrait and lifestyle photographer in Kansas City. I work with lots of families, business owners, and individuals looking to update their portfolios.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a single mom of two girls. I picked up a camera ten years ago in hopes of documenting my girls' lives in a beautiful way and found a real love for capturing moments for others. My motivations are my girls, my success in my business, and my desire to be financially free.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business was succeeding through COVID and continuing to flourish. It was a challenging time, and to still have my studio doors open is huge.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part about owning a business owner is the ebbs and flows of the business. If it's too hot outside or too cold, people aren't necessarily wanting to have photos taken.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love.
  2. Find a mentor in your industry and study everything you can.
  3. Don't give up. Only those who keep going succeed.
