Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Barron, Founder of Rebecca Barron Yoga, located in Decatur, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Rebecca Barron Yoga (RBY) is my private yoga therapy practice specializing in mental health and trauma. I am rooted in the principle of creating a space of absolute safety and security to advocate for each person's innate power to create transformational healing. Through the use of body and breath work, mindfulness practices, and lifestyle modifications, I empower each client to take control of their mental, emotional, and physical health by exploring coping tools and techniques for self-regulation and optimal, whole-person wellness. I work with each client to create a plan of care that meets them exactly where they are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and works towards their own specific needs and goals. Each protocol is as unique as the person it is created for. At Rebecca Barron Yoga, I serve in-home clients, conduct group classes, facilitate workshops, organize events, and offer retreats.

Tell us about yourself

My journey began as an 18-year-old dealing with debilitating anxiety and depression due to personal traumas, including sexual assault and violent emotional abuse. I began practicing yoga for the physical benefits but soon began to notice the effects on her mental health. Yoga remained a casual part of my life throughout my young adult years, but in 2011 I decided to begin the path toward becoming a yoga teacher. My initial 200-hour training involved a very physical practice which became challenging due to physical limitations and joint pain from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. On a quest to find alternative, less strenuous options for my yoga practice pain management, I discovered the practice of yoga therapy. It was through my yoga therapy studies and clinical work that I began to understand the deeper level of healing that yoga therapy could achieve in mitigating the symptoms of autoimmune and mental health conditions, two areas that hit the closest to home. As I continued to learn about the positive impact of yoga therapy on mental health, my older brother, Andrew, was fighting for his life against severe Bipolar Disorder, a battle that he lost in 2017. Andrew's passing was the catalyst to dedicate my full attention to mental health and trauma. I have completed over 1,000 hours of training and clinical work under leading experts in the field of yoga therapy, medicine, psychology, and neuroscience. I have in-depth knowledge of the systems of the body and have experience working with many of the chronic conditions that affect us, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Parkinson's, MS, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, stroke, heart disease, IBS, Scoliosis, post-injury/surgery.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Graduating and receiving a grant from the Start: ME Emory Goizueta Business School Accelerator program. This program changed my life as a business owner, and to be awarded a grant, among many other worthy applicants, was an incredible honor and accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
