Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Nicole Panethere, licensed Naturopathic Doctor, located in Whitby, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Reach Wellness is a multidisciplinary health facility offering a variety of alternative treatment options, including naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, osteopathy, massage therapy, psychotherapy, chiropractic care, and nutrition services.

Our goal is to provide our clients with a holistic health experience where they can truly feel heard and cared for. We believe health is more than just the absence of illness, so we aim to address all aspects of their health to help them truly feel their best.

Tell us about yourself

When I started out as a naturopathic doctor, I didn't realize how much entrepreneurship would be involved, and I had no idea how much I would love the business aspect of my career. After several years of independent practice, a pandemic, and a new baby, I was burning out and realized my current business model as a solo practitioner just wasn't a good fit for myself or my growing family.

I decided to open Reach Wellness as a way to benefit my patients with a variety of services they could utilize but also keep my independent practice sustainable long term and provide a bit more balance to my lifestyle. I love being able to practice the medicine I believe in, provide a well-rounded healthcare experience for our clients and also balance life as a working mom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening Reach Wellness is by far the biggest accomplishment in my business career. It was always a "someday" goal that turned into reality, and I still can't even believe it happened the way it did. I walk into the clinic every day feeling so grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and all the growth we've experienced since opening in 2021.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Asking for help has been one of my biggest challenges. I'm usually the person who wants to do all the things myself, and as my business has grown, that just isn't possible anymore. Surrounding myself with the right people who truly care about my success and are the right fit for my needs has been key in growing my business to the next level.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You're never going to feel ready, so just start.
  2. If you're willing to put in the work, there is no limit on what you can accomplish.
  3. Get clear on your "why" and remind yourself of that on the days you want to quit.
