Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Isiah King, Co-Founder of Re-Imagine Education, located in Milwaukee, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Re-Imagine ED is an educator development organization with a mission to attract BIPOC talent to education careers and leverage intentional pathways for retention, career grooming, and upward mobility through meaningful mentorship channels. Our customers are high school students, college students, career changers, and current educators.

Tell us about yourself

I am a former teacher and school leader. I started Re-Imagine alongside my business partner because of the need I saw in my school building. Our school demographics didn't reflect the diversity of the students we served. I am passionate about ensuring we pave the way for the next generation of educators. We approach this work by supporting and developing aspiring educators through mentorship and coaching. I'm always motivated to see the mission unfold, whether it's through networking, partnerships, or sponsorships.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We have awarded two high school seniors college scholarships through the Howard-Streicher & King Scholarship Fund. We have trained 60 current and aspiring educators through our mission in partner schools.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

A challenge that many businesses face is funding. As a business owner, you need to ensure you have adequate sales, clients, and financial stability.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Identify a problem that you are passionate about solving.
  2. Find a business coach or mentor who can advise you.
  3. Create your business plan for long-term sustainability.
