What's your business, and who are your customers?
Association for India's Development (AID) is a non-profit charitable organization that supports underprivileged communities in India in their struggle for equity and social justice through programs and campaigns in education, health, agriculture, and sustainable development. We work in partnership with organizations and social activists in India, create awareness in the US, and mobilize volunteers and resources for humanitarian and ecological causes.
Tell us about yourself
Seeing the struggling life of many in the world who are forced to work for something like $1-2 a day, seeing their simple lifestyles filled with hope and courage, and the sacrifices they make first got me working on bringing about a change. Since then, I have learned a lot from people's movements about underlying causes and forces that continue to exploit and oppress sections of society and how progressive action can counter them and achieve a transformation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Setting a holistic vision of engagement on all the progressive issues in India from the US, thereby attracting some of the most committed talents in different areas and building transformative partnerships at the cutting edge of some of the current issues in India.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The balance between risks and the level/nature of change that the organization aims for.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Aim high, start now, and do something that will contribute positively to society and the urgent challenges of the earth.
