Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rashel Hariri, Fractional Marketing Leader and Consultant, based in Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Fractional Marketing Leader and Consultant for startups. I work across many verticals in the tech industry, from Fintech and Healthtech to Shipping and Logistics. My clients are startup founders who need support bringing their products or business to the market. I specialize in brand marketing, go-to-marketing strategy, and creating a marketing engine that takes startups from 0 to 1.

Tell us about yourself

I am a seasoned marketing professional, startup consultant, and podcast host with over 15 years of experience leading marketing strategies and teams at Global organizations. I've created award-winning marketing campaigns for some of the largest brands in the world, like McDonald's, Shopify, and ING Direct/Tangerine Bank.

After leaving the corporate world in 2021, I launched Rashel Hariri Inc., a consultancy specializing in leading holistic marketing and business strategies for startups, including creating transformative go-to-market strategies, brand partnerships, and product launches for startups and founders across the globe.

In 2023, I launched She's Interesting, a podcast and community changing the narrative around entrepreneurship and highlighting the powerful stories of women entrepreneurs and investors.

I'm deeply committed to the success of startups and offer guidance to career-driven individuals. As a career and entrepreneurial coach, she assists clients in unlocking their potential and shaping careers that resonate with their missions.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Scaling to 6-figures in my first six months as an entrepreneur. I'm numbers-driven, and this accomplishment gave me the encouragement to keep pursuing my passion for working with entrepreneurs. I've worked with some incredible founders and have been able to work with them to design and implement their marketing engine, everything from their launch campaigns to helping them screen and hire employees.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I work as a solo entrepreneur, and the hardest part is not having a team to celebrate the wins with. Entrepreneurship is a challenge every day, and having a team that supports each other and grows together is something I miss. It's not to say I won't build a team, but for now, it's something that I crave.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build your flywheel. Determine what levers will support the growth of your business and go hard on them!
  2. Ensure you have enough cash in the bank that you can cover your expenses for six months. Not having financial stress when you're starting a business will help you keep a clear mind and focus on winning.
  3. Don't make the same mistake I did; hire a bookkeeper; it's worth it!
