Tell us about yourself

I started at Del Frisco's Steakhouse in Dallas. I began by washing dishes and worked my way up to kitchen manager. I left in 1993 to start Randy's Steakhouse. I love coming to work every day and serving my guest. I have the most loyal guest in this industry, and many have become friends of mine.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have built my business from just three employees to 43 employees. I have created a great place for people to work and guest to have a great time. Randy's Steakhouse is a steakhouse with a personality.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about owning a business is accepting and working through what you can not control. Difficult regulations, street construction right in front of your business, recession, a pandemic, and the possibility of a war. Through all of these, you must maintain a positive attitude and strive to survive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, know what your numbers should be and then manage them. Examples are food costs and labor costs. Next, manage maintenance, cleanliness, pest control. Last, always look for ways to improve the guest experience. Making a guest happy is the fastest way to grow your business. Positive word of mouth is both the cheapest and most trusted way to grow your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Treat your employees like kings, and they will treat your guest like kings.
