What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an artist. I create my art from my imagination. I sell my art to people of all ages through my website, a few art festivals, and social media.
Tell us about yourself
From 2nd grade on, I knew I would be an artist. I attended the Kansas City Art Institute and created my own style of art, selling wherever I could to pay the bills. I didn't have a plan, but I made it work. An artist's mind never stops being inspired by the world around them, and the need to express themselves never goes away. And there's always a need to be financially successful.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
First would be knowing I have followed my childhood dream of being an artist. Next is knowing how many people I have touched and inspired with my art. Now with social media and licensing, I have connected to people around the world.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Keeping yourself going through all the ups and downs of starting a business. Being self-employed, you're working at it all day, every day. That's why you need to love it. Dealing with the employees you go through til you get the right amazing employee.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If you love it and know it will work, never give up. Only work with nice motivated people.
- Keep your eye on every detail of your business. Your business represents you.
- Keep learning and creating.
