Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rhonda Watson, Founder of Radiate Wellness Massage Ltd, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an independent massage therapist and have a clinic in South Edmonton. My clients are those who require therapeutic treatment.

Tell us about yourself

I worked in the corporate world for almost 20 years of my working life; after my kids grew up, I decided to pursue a career that aligned with my interests and values. I wanted to help people and make a difference in their lives. Once I completed my 2-year training, I worked in a busy clinic and built up my clientele. I was working as a subcontractor and was basically managing everything, so I decided the next natural step forward was to run my own business. I love my career and enjoy the time I spend with my clients; hearing how my treatments make a difference in their lives is my motivation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business has been in operation for just over 2 years, and that itself is a huge accomplishment. I am planning on the next phase, which is growth, I have secured a stable platform to build from, and that is my biggest accomplishment at this time.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is that you wear so many hats and must make time to develop and nourish all areas of the business, not just the ones you enjoy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Setting small goals as you go along.
  2. Secure appointments with other owners in your field and outside to have a wide range of experiences to pull information from.
  3. Take the first step! Listen to your intuition.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Just get started on the process, you may not be able to see how it will all come together, but once you start the small steps, it will build momentum and come together.
