Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Iida Cisecki, Co-Founder and CEO of Quibbit Inc., located in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Quibbit makes car services simple for you. We do things like tire changes, oil changes, chipped glass, and mobile fueling on your driveway, workplace, or wherever you are when you need these services. Imagine that chipped windshield patched when you are in a meeting or in the park with your kids. We want to take that one thing off your plate so that you can spend more time doing what you love.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a single mother, and every time I had to take my car in to be serviced, it was a hassle. I was on someone else's schedule, had to often leave the car for the day, and figure out a plan B for picking up the kids. With Quibbit, my car needs are handled while I work. Therefore, I don't have to make choices on what is more important anymore. What motivates me is thinking that my work is giving people more time to do what they love.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Definitely launching Quibbit. It was a long road to get there, but we are out and helping people every single day. I love hearing stories about business owners that got more business because of Quibbit and also about the people whose lives we made easier by existing. We have been lucky enough to also be selected to be part of Founder Institute, Scotiabank Top100 Mom Pitch, and HerStory Finalist in 2022.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Wearing so many hats at once. Startup life is definitely something that doesn't suit everyone. You have to be ready to pitch anywhere and everywhere. You have to be ready to change your role within the company on a whim. You have to be ready to face a new challenge every single day. But I love it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be true to yourself. Being a business owner is hard work and needs dedication.
- Listen to your customers. But not to the point that you lose sight of your vision.
- Focus on the people around you. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, so choose them wisely.
