Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in candle-making but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Naquanda Rabb, Owner of QCANDLES, located in Browns Mills, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi, I'm Quanni, the owner of Qcandles. I started Quanniscraftcorner one year ago in my kitchen in Browns Mills, NJ. I love coming up with cool, unique craft ideas. One day I decided why not order a candle-making kit; let's see if I can create a unique, luxurious, and affordable candle for the whole family to enjoy! Something that will take your mind away from everyday life. I handcraft every candle. It brings me so much joy creating.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a single mom of two wonderful children. As we all know, candles can be a little expensive. I wanted to create cool, unique candles for everyone to enjoy! That's exactly what I did! My children motivate me to keep pushing myself & growing my business. I love creating, making my kids proud, and hopefully turning this business into something they can have for years to come. I don't have much money, so my business is not steady. When I started researching this business, I was surprised at the cost. Running a candle business is much more than what meets the eye. I have a list of goals, a huge support system, and some local clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is hearing all of the positive feedback! It motivates my drive to continue to go further. Learning from others that have been in business for years and learning more and more every day to become a professional shop.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding funding. I'm a small business, so I don't have a steady customer base. Finding ways to promote my business online. Just getting people familiar with my products.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First! It's very important to research this business. Making candles seems like a great way to make a quick buck, but that's not true. It's important to make sure you understand the pour ratio, especially if you plan to use scented fragrance oils.

Making candles takes time! It's a process that takes patience. To be successful, your heart must be in it! Love what you do! Finding what customers want! Your target audience and your niche set you apart from the competition.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love making candles! I suffer from anxiety! I found aromatherapy, and it changed my life! I decided to make a Lavender candle Infused with essential oils to help with relaxation, anxiety, stress, and so much more just by lighting a candle.
