Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chantal Côté, Founder of Pyramid Psychology, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Pyramid Psychology is a wellness service for teen girls. Our mission is to help 100,000 teen girls build their Unbreakable Factor. We believe it all starts with 3 foundational pillars: Transforming confidence, Having great and safe relationships, and Stepping into your spotlight to live a life aligned with what's most important to you. We offer therapy, group support, and a virtual wellness hub for community and resources. We serve teen girls between the ages of 11-21.

Tell us about yourself

I trust that this is part of my purpose while I'm here on earth. I see so clearly the need to support and empower our youth, and I am meant to be a part of that. I don't always know the how or see the path clearly, but I know it's the right one. I slowly started my journey of wellness later in my teen years and am still at it. I know wellness is a lifelong thing, and if teens can have access to the support that will transform their mental wellness and allow them to build strong foundational pieces, we have the potential to change the trajectory of an entire nation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far has been saying yes to starting a business with a big mission of helping 100,000 teen girls to build their Unbreakable Factor and seeing it grow from solo to having a team encompassing therapists, student interns, marketing experts, and admin. There's so much more to come!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I'm a very creative, imaginative thinker, so I get a lot of ideas constantly. This is great. I'm so grateful for this quality. On the other side, I find it challenging to follow through on the nitty gritty details and implement some of my ideas. This is why the team aspect is so incredibly helpful. I'm learning how to leverage everyone's different strengths to help us reach our goals more quickly and efficiently.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start. If you have an idea and know there's a problem being solved by your idea, just start. So many people wait in fear for the "right" time, the "right" people, the "right" market, etc. The most important learning I've done has been along the way after saying YES to starting my business.
  2. Hire before you're totally ready. Bringing on the team has been a lifesaver. It opens up time and space for you as the founder and visionary to do what you do best.
  3. Get mentorship. Find people who are further along in their business journey than you are. Connect, listen and learn from them. They have nuggets that can make your business path so much smoother if you're open to listening. Why go at it alone? Whether it's in the form of coaching, masterminds, group support, or 1:1, this is an absolutely must, in my opinion.
