Putting Women's Health First - Yoni Nutritionist

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adrienne Rommel, Holistic Nutritionist of Yoni Nutritionist, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Certified Holistic Nutritionist specializing in holistic nutrition and lifestyle practices for women's sexual health. My main focus is helping women eliminate and manage symptoms of common vaginal infections like yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, HPV, and herpes. These are very taboo topics that are loaded with shame and stigma that many women face every day! My clients are women who are struggling with chronic vaginal health issues and want to learn more about a holistic approach to their vaginal health.

Tell us about yourself

I've personally struggled with my vaginal health for more than half my life. It was so frustrating going to doctors' and not getting any other solutions to managing my chronic vaginal infections other than medication. The peak of my vaginal health issues happened in my mid-30's when I experienced Candida Overgrowth. This fungal infection took over my entire body. When I learned that diet was what could get rid of it, and I did it, and it WORKED, that was the lightbulb moment for me. I quit my corporate sales career and went back to school to study holistic nutrition. Now I help women all over the world learn how to manage their vaginal infections holistically just as I did and help them end the shame and stigma that is loaded on top of many women's sexual health issues.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having this idea, of starting the Yoni Nutritionist, of having NO IDEA what I was doing or what I was getting into, especially when talking so openly and publicly about taboo topics, talking so openly and vulnerably about my personal health journey, and empowering so many people as they go through theirs.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not having a stable income. Sometimes I wonder if I'll be able to pay my bills some months. I always have faith that it will work out! Also, starting my own business with having NO IDEA of how much work was involved, not only in creating content for my business/brand, but all the admin and back-end work it takes to get everything set up. It's been almost three years, and I'm still learning! Sometimes it feels like it will never end!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have an idea that you're passionate about that you think you want to pursue - GO FOR IT!
  2. Get really specific with your niche.
  3. Do your research! Once you discover your niche, find out who else is talking about it, what they want to know, and what value YOU bring to the table that no one else does!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Establishing your brand on social media channels is the best way to grow! Create value in your content so that other people share your content (and you get exposure to their audience). Share other people's content on your platform (so that they are on theirs!).
