Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kris McGuigan, Founder and CEO of Professional Courage, located in Broadview Heights, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our management training and career coaching build an engaged workforce motivated to compete and climb. With a proven framework and industry expertise, we help organizations to attract top talent, increase productivity, and enhance employee engagement.

Tell us about yourself

Like so many of the professionals we serve, I found myself at a career crossroads– ready for the next step on the ladder, not sure where to find it. After a vigorous process of assessing my values and exploring my options, I decided to take the leap and walk away from my corner office. I have not looked back since.

While Professional Courage began focused on resume writing and job search consultation, the response from the marketplace quickly illustrated a gap in career management programming at the corporate level. We still offer the same tried and true individual services our brand was built upon, but we now also partner with industry leaders to build an engaged workforce motivated to compete and climb.

Professional Courage offers a suite of hands-on, comprehensive services tailored to the unique needs of organizations. We work closely with HR partners looking to provide career advancement training crucial for talent retention and overall growth.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Writing my first book and having it published by Morgan James Publishing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The roller coaster of cash flow and finding a balance between working on the business and in the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Approach every experience with a learning objective, and you will find value in even the biggest setbacks.
  2. Establish strategic partnerships with colleagues that serve a similar client base but with a service/product that is complimentary to yours.
  3. Build your authentic self into the business. The energy that comes from your true talents and passions will bring you through difficult days.
