Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts and crafts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Siameh, Owner of Princess Baby Boutique, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Princess Baby Boutique is a crochet business for fun people. This business evolved from a hobby into a business over a decade, but the focus has remained the same. I create beautiful custom crocheted items for my customers and their loved ones to share joy and comfort.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Sarah, and I'm a mom. I started crocheting at 18 with friends in a dorm to help calm the stress of finals. And when I started my family, I started crocheting cute babies' and toddlers' winter accessories for photos. Over the years, my work has evolved to include plushies, earrings, clothing, and a little of everything in between.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I don't think my friends would say this is my biggest accomplishment, but in my opinion, my biggest accomplishment is creating things that I love and not feeling the need to be tied down to any certain kind of product. Many other artists only create within their niche, but I made a conscious decision to create what brings myself and my customers joy. I'm glad I am continuing to do that even a decade later.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a sole proprietor, I wear all the hats. I'm the scheduler, bookkeeper, merchandiser, accountant, artist, marketer, and so on. I also have ADHD, so there are times when scheduling is challenging.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Top of the list is to surround yourself with kind, supportive friends and colleagues. Having friends that are also striving to achieve their goals really helps to motivate me.
  2. I also strongly believe in networking and speaking about what you want to achieve. Creating working relationships has helped me and my business in so many ways. We do better when we support each other, and networking is a great way to meet like-minded business people.
  3. Last is to make sure to take time for yourself to rest. Whether meditating, going out, listening to your favorite playlist, or trying out another skill that piques your interest, make sure you're taking time to care for yourself. I am who I am because I rest instead of overdoing it and getting burnt out.
