Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Cathleen King, Founder of Primal Trust, located in St George, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an online membership with courses and live trainings to help those with chronic illness, chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, and trauma patterns.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a physical therapist and neuroscience educator who suffered from almost 2 decades of debilitating chronic illness (Lyme disease, Chronic Fatigue, Mold Toxicity, PTSD, and more). I found my way to recovery using a combination of brain retraining, nervous system healing, and trauma repair practices. I then create a program to help others recover from illness. I am motivated each day, knowing that my story and suffering were a catalyst of understanding to now be able to help thousands of others find freedom from chronic symptoms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business had a 400% growth in the first year of moving to a membership format. We now have thousands of members worldwide and over 20 staff members who help lead the community. We are creating a movement of transformation and healing that is changing the way people approach treating chronic illness and trauma.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing my personal care and family time alongside the expansion of my business. My growth has been amazing, but finding a way to attend to my personal needs is a challenge now.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Fire first; aim as you go. I just went for it. I launched my course, not even created, and created it as I worked with people. I didn't create a fancy website. I just offered my services and started helping others. I wasn't afraid of doing it wrong. I learned as I went.
  2. Do it yourself first. I didn't hire fancy coaches, tech teams, etc. I did it all myself initially. I learned the ins and outs myself. Once I had a good revenue, I hired help. I was never in a financial business deficit because of this. I had profits the first month I launched...way less stressed that way, but yes, there was a steep learning curve.
  3. You can always improvise, reformate, and change things. Don't be a perfectionist. Just offer what you think people would like and my iterations from there. Otherwise, you will likely never get started because your product will never feel "ready."
