Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raymond Low, Owner of Primal NRG Fitness, located in Sydney, NSW, AU.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Primal NRG Fitness. My customers are mainly 30 to 40 years old and want to get stronger, be leaner, and feel more energetic on a day-to-day basis.

Tell us about yourself

I have found teaching a natural thing to do since I was a teenager. I particularly enjoyed teaching others how to do things that I was good at! At university, while training at the university gym, I was offered an instructor job. That was in 2003, and I've been working in the fitness industry ever since.

I enjoy helping others become better versions of themselves through structured strength and fitness training. There is a lot of reward in seeing people improve and gain the confidence to do things they felt they could never do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To make a small impact on my local community in a positive way. Primal NRG Fitness is a place where people go to improve themselves by being healthier and more resilient, thereby contributing towards a stronger community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Doing too much, as it is very difficult to differentiate between work and life, as fitness and training are already such a large part of my life. Work and life often merge, making days seem very long and stretched out.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your heart and do something you truly have passion for.
  2. Be great at customer service. It's often how you make people feel that they will remember the most.
  3. Leadership is sometimes stepping back and listening to others.
