What's your business, and who are your customers?

We provide world-quality preventive medicine to people all over the world. At PrevMed, we focus on preventing not only heart attack and stroke but also type 2 diabetes, cognitive decline, and other chronic diseases. We serve patients who have already experienced an event, as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event.

Our approach is to reduce or eliminate risks through attentive care and state-of-the-art genetic testing, imaging, lab tests, and telemedicine options.

Tell us about yourself

I started as an ER doc. But too many heart attacks should have been prevented. I went to Johns Hopkins for training in prevention. I did well & was tapped to run the program, training other doctors. Now I have patients all over the world, & a YouTube channel with 120,000 subscribers. I save lives every week. Just check the video content. Sure, I enjoy family, golf, & travel. But saving lives keeps me in the game. (It makes a little mo et, too.)

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As they say, "doing well by doing good." As I said above, I'm not just making money; I'm doing it while saving lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There are so many hard things:

  1. Being a 1-man-band. - I am competing with other companies that have legal teams, marketing teams, HR, etc. You really start to get traction when you get about 3 dozen people;
  2. Financing - if the business cannot pay its bills, it dies &
  3. Every little thing can quickly become an existential threat, from a content generation problem to cash flow/profitability, quality, etc. Small companies tend to go through a lot of instability.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a real market to which you have a real solution then
  2. Market, execute, & improve.
  3. Most start-ups are built on emotions & dreams. Emotions & dreams are like sand; there is no great foundation.
