Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mandy Lile, Founder of Potency No. 710, located in North Hollywood, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Potency No. 710 is a plant-based skincare company that embraces the powers of nature. Potency is more than just a business; it is a lifestyle brand that features many CBD/CBG products, such as our shining star, the Potency No. 710 Gold Serum, and our latest product, the Higher Good luxury full body moisturizer!
Our customers range from teenagers and college students fighting acne to soccer moms, business professionals, celebrities, grandmothers, and everyone in between that embraces natural skincare products. Some of my biggest supporters are those from my home state of KY, which have been showing me love since back in the day when I opened my first skincare clinic at the age of 20!
Tell us about yourself
Since childhood, I have had a gift for taking an ugly situation and making it beautiful. Unfortunately, thanks to draconian cannabis prohibition, my late father spent much of my childhood incarcerated on cannabis charges. This is, without a doubt, something that fuels my fire to change the stigma surrounding this plant, and I am doing so through beauty.
Since opening my first skincare clinic at the age of 20, I have gained a plethora of firsthand knowledge on the importance of safe ingredients. It is this force and the intentions that I put into the products Potency offers that stand them apart from the rest, making it more than a brand but rather a lifestyle—a lifestyle of self-care powered by nature and higher intentions.
My greatest motivation is my community of supporters and the amazing transformations that keep landing in my inbox on a daily basis. I love watching the products I have formulated with such love and high intentions provide such positive results for people on various levels.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is keeping my head above the water these last four years, all while being restricted and unable to truly advertise and expand on marketing efforts like most businesses. This certainly slowed my roll coming out of the gate, but slow and steady wins the race.
I am also pretty proud of the fact that in 4 years of business, I have not had a single customer return an order because they were unsatisfied with the products or their service, and that is definitely something to celebrate!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me about being a business owner is learning when to shut it off at home. In my case, it’s simply because I’m so passionate about what I do that I could work 24/7. So, with this in mind, I have to know when to turn it off and practice some of that self-care I preach about!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If I could provide three tips to anyone looking to start or expand a business, it would be to always lead with the highest of intentions and to put forth the best energy into every aspect.
Secondly, I would highly recommend finding time each and every day to practice self-care as it is essential not only for your well-being but for those around you as well and for your mission at hand.
Last but not least, I would remind them that it is essential to crawl first and to then keep a steady pace walking until everything has aligned for you to run at it, full force! Every good thing takes time, and the path getting there can be as bumpy or smooth as you allow it to be!
