What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with nonprofits to increase their visibility and impact through digital advertising and monthly giving programs.

Tell us about yourself

I left my corporate career in 2017 to pursue my passion and purpose of working with nonprofits to amplify their missions through digital marketing. I've always been curious about the ever-evolving digital space and wanted to share my knowledge and experience with organizations looking to change the world. What motivates me each day is the little light bulb moments an organization has—one small or big adjustment to their strategy that can end up making all the difference.

Do you have daily rituals for work / wellness / fitness / mindfulness?

Ideas always seem to come to me in the morning, so after I drop my daughter at daycare, I love spending time moving, whether running outside or going for a walk listening to a podcast. In the evening, journaling is a great way for me to try and clear my mind before bed. I find that I'm often thinking about what I need to do tomorrow, and journaling helps calm and organize my mind so that I can rest.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm approaching six years in business, and I'd say that one of my biggest accomplishments is making it this far. Being a solopreneur is a tough job and figuring out how to pivot when necessary to scale and grow is crucial. You learn lessons along the way and learn to lean on the support of others for advice. I've been extremely fortunate to be part of masterminds and communities that are supportive of one another.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It can be lonely working through problems or brainstorming ideas, often in a silo, wondering if something is a good idea. I've taken a very proactive approach and invested money and time to overcome "impostor syndrome" and loneliness by immersing myself in communities that I can learn from and lift me up!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be able to pivot. Spend time reflecting on your business to realize what's working and what's not, and be flexible to pivot when necessary.
  2. Hire a CFO. I hired a part-time CFO for the first time this year, and it's made such an incredible difference to understand my numbers and really be able to forecast projections for the year.
  3. Join a mastermind. Find a group that wants to go in the same direction as you, may even be a few steps ahead of you, and lean into that group for support and knowledge. Being an entrepreneur can be lonely, and finding a small group that understands your challenges is invaluable.
