What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the Christian online media niche, which includes podcasting, radio broadcasting, and helping coach those that also would like to enter this niche at a higher level. I enjoy interviewing believers about their business; it does not have to be "preaching" - think Chick-Filet or Hobby Lobby! If you are a believer and have a secular business, or you are an author or coach - I would love to interview you about what you are doing!
Tell us about yourself
I started in online media back in 2009 with my first "podcast" (although I did not even know what a podcast was!) Within six months, I was offered a spot on nationwide Christian AM radio! What a ride! Long story short - that was EXPENSIVE!
This led me to begin our own online Christian radio station, "Evangelism Radio," in October 2010. This station quickly grew to be rated #1 in the world in the Christian Talk Genre by Shoutcast.com. My first podcast, "The Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast," was an offshoot of the radio station. That started in 2018, and we have just started our 5th year. We have been rated in the top 1/2% of all podcasts worldwide (over 3 million podcasts) by ListenNotes.com. I have conducted almost 900 interviews, and we have published almost 1300 episodes in that time (and it is still ongoing)!
I interview Christian authors, business leaders, entrepreneurs, CEOs, and influencers (including pastors and ministers) on a daily basis! I recently started the "Faith Based Business Podcast," which is a 15-minute interview promoting other Christian influencers, business owners, etc. This podcast is designed to grow into a daily podcast as well. I also help Christian believers to start their own podcasts - and possibly have them become radio broadcasters by allowing them the option to become a broadcaster on "Evangelism Radio!"
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Helping other Christian believers to start their own podcasts and teaching them how to leverage that to GROW their business, influence, etc. This is really an open avenue for growing new clients and customers that many people do not utilize today!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Finding the time to manage the various aspects of my business on a daily basis (promotions, marketing, answering emails, scheduling interviews, preparing/researching for interviews, conducting interviews, editing the recordings, and loading them to the server - and promoting the episodes). But - I've also discovered a process that smooths that out a little bit and will actually expand your market!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be shy! You MUST take action (because your competition hopes you won't take action)!
- Every single day - do SOMETHING to take the next step (some days - you may take three or four steps)!
- Consistency is the key. Find out what works and do it every day!
