Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Igor Kiss, Founding Partner of Plumstack, located in Lake Zurich, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My partner and I founded Plumstack to take care of our partner's tech stacks while they build their business. We provide SaaS Brokering, Consulting, and Operational Auditing for small and medium businesses. It is our belief that every department should maintain its own SaaS techstack and configuration, regardless of business size or stage. Small and Medium business is missing out on the major benefits that their tech and Enterprise counterparts are seeing every day. Plumstack fills that gap by teaching and explaining the various different types of business software tools on the market today.

Tell us about yourself

After working for years at a major payroll provider as one of the top reps, I now finally had the opportunity to make a real difference in the small business industry. Growing up in a small business family, my partner and I both now have families of our own and understand how much of a community SMB is. Our main motivator now is to allow other small business owners to get the most out of their business software tools and services and avoid getting taken advantage of by reps and brands who don't have their best interests at heart, which truthfully is most. We're proud to be able to bring more value and transparency to the SaaS buying process and to help small business owners get the most out of their payroll services.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Converting our enterprise-level organization software selling knowledge into incredible resources for all of our clients and prospects, and readers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Juggling between winning new business and delivering projects is currently our biggest struggle. I LOVE selling and speaking to business owners about their businesses, but we also pride ourselves on being accountable, which means less time in the field and on the phones. Delivering deadlines is incredibly important for us, especially when contract renewals creep up for various clients and project loads grow.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Since I see this every day in our business, I will make it a point 1 -
Stay up to date with the latest business tech. It can be a huge driver of efficiency and productivity when used correctly.
  2. Utilize marketing strategies that work for your niche: guerrilla marketing based on what you do. Next month try something different, compare and contrast results, and bam, you have an area of marketing focus.
  3. SURVEY! Survey everyone. It will lead to easy decisions. For example - loans and fundraising rounds are great, but go survey 20-30 potential clients first and see if there is actually a need for your product or solution.
