Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Paige Zen, Founder of Playthink, LLC, located in Lexington, KY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder and CEO of PlayThink, LLC, a transformation-focused production company. We host festivals and events, including PlayThink Movement, Music, and Arts Festival, Kentucky Yoga Festival, The Goddexx Initiative, and Equinox Connection. Our customers are families who are on the path of self-development and are looking for constant betterment.

Tell us about yourself

PlayThink, my first event, started when I wanted to learn how to hula hoop better. I had run out of local and regional artists to expand my skills and decided to have a festival where movement artists came to teach workshops. I didn't know at the time that organizing events didn't lead to having time to take classes! I don't hula hoop much these days, but the flow of organizing turned into my passion. As I learned more about myself and how growth and activation changed my life - I wanted to show others how to do the same. Motivation comes from different sources day to day, but when I come back to my why, it's because people matter. People deserve to have love, support, and radical acceptance in their lives, and I want to provide that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been creating a life with balance - days where I can explore the world, read a book, or spend endless time with my son and days where I work with clients, have meetings and focus on my career. Freedom has been my greatest dream, and when I realized I had it - it meant everything!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Navigating the emotions of team members and clients of a community-oriented business has been my hardest thing to overcome. When we learn to hold space for others and ourselves, consider how worthy we all are, and come from a place of observation versus blame - it becomes easier to manage and easier to have unconditional love for those around us.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Contracts, contracts, contracts.
  2. Clients will become friends more than friends will become clients.
  3. Be prepared to go ALL IN. Perseverance is key.
