Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anna Tseng, Founder of PlantNourished, located in Three Hills, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As the Founder of PlantNourished and a plant-based Registered Dietitian, I help busy individuals with health challenges make a smooth and enjoyable transition to plant-based eating for optimal health transformation. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with adults from all walks of life and situations, including health field workers like nurses, full-time working parents, entrepreneurs, working professionals, academic professionals, and retired seniors.

Through private coaching and my signature online course, I equip my clients with the practical skills, knowledge, strategies, and delicious plant-based diet recipes they need for successful plant-based eating. Working together, I empower them so they can break out of their health-limited lives and enjoy fuller, more active lives with less current and future chronic diseases.

Tell us about yourself

I first became interested in plant-based eating because of a desire to optimize my family’s health in the midst of multiple health issues in my extended family. But as I researched about plant-based diets, I was amazed to learn the myriad of health benefits a fiber-rich, whole food plant-based diet can give – benefits such as lowering cholesterol and blood pressure levels, improved diabetes, and even the prevention and reversal of heart disease.

That’s why I established PlantNourished because I saw a real practical need. I’ve encountered many people who struggle with such health conditions and want to change to a plant-based diet but don’t know how to do so in an energy-and time-saving way amid busy schedules. I am thrilled that, through PlantNourished, I now get to help others learn how to enjoy a variety of colorful, nourishing whole plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and lentils and show them how they can turn these minimally processed ingredients easily into tasty nutrient-packed plant-based meals. The most exciting part of the process, though, is watching their health be transformed through the power of plant-based foods and seeing them enjoy a better quality of life, doing the things they love with the people they love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest desire has been to make grasping the basics of plant-based eating easier and more accessible to those who desire to make this lifestyle change but have financial, time and energy constraints. This has since turned into my biggest accomplishment through the creation of my digital course called the Plant-Powered Life Transformation Course. This is a 6-week Online Course designed to help busy individuals build a strong foundation in plant-based eating and master the basics of a plant-based diet so they can start and continue to thrive on a plant-powered lifestyle. Through the core video lessons, recipes, PDF guides, and support provided, students learn how to reap the powerful health benefits of a plant-based diet by mastering essential kitchen hacks, strategies, and easy recipes that result in delicious and convenient meals without long hours in the kitchen!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When you own a business, it’s really difficult not to be tied to it 24/7 because you are fueled by your passion and commitment to your business. So, maintaining a balance between work and family can be a challenge at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. The work will always be there, even if you take time out for your family. So set priorities and boundaries early on to enable you to still enjoy your family and life outside of work commitments.
  2. Focus on building a strong foundation first with the right business software and applications that will be scalable in the future. This way, you don’t have to keep moving things around like your email list (e.g., a good CRM software system).
  3. The relationships you build and conversations you have with your current and future customers are important. So don’t neglect those. Someone once told me that people would forget what you do, but they will not forget how you made them feel, and I find that so true in my business!
