Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business consulting and services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Dennehy, CEO of Pivot & Slay, located in Merrick, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Pivot and Slay is a consulting company that empowers entrepreneurs to get selfishly devoted to their own happiness first so they can find their freedom and have it all!

Tell us about yourself

I am a single mom of two little girls, a 2x Best-Selling Author, speaker, yoga enthusiast, and recovering attorney that started her entrepreneurial journey ten years ago when I left Wall Street to build my first company. I always thought I had to choose between being an amazing parent or a driven businesswoman. But through entrepreneurship, I created an opportunity where I did not have to choose - I could be both! What lights me up the most is helping other entrepreneurs rise above the hustle so they can find the freedom to have it all!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My most cherished accomplishment so far is taking my daughters to a women's event to see me speak and share the struggles and successes I've experienced along the way. I think it gave them the inspiration and power to know that if I can do it, so can they.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The ongoing challenge for me is to maintain my own autonomy as an individual while also juggling my roles as a mom and business owner. I learned that by getting selfishly devoted to my own happiness, I am able to maintain my level of energy and passion for all the roles I play in life: mom, friend, partner, business owner, etc.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Transforming yourself first will ultimately help you make your home, family, and life more meaningful and happy.
  2. Start starting - there is no perfect time or scenario.
  3. Trust yourself. Your gut is your inner compass. Listen to it. You will either succeed or learn a valuable lesson to help you next time.
