Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Barbara DiVirgilio, Owner of Pine Hollow Winery, located in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Pine Hollow Winery is a boutique winery featuring our own hand-crafted specialty wines made on-site. Our wines are created for everyone to enjoy, locals, in particular, love to stop by. We are located within the city limits of Las Vegas at 7018 W Charleston Blvd.

Tell us about yourself

We started making wine as gifts for friends and family in 2011. Everyone loved it so much we decided to open our own winery in our 1920s Craftsman Home in Pennsylvania. By 2015 we had a thriving winery. After much thought and consideration, we decided to move our little winery to Las Vegas. In 2019 we made the move, and it took three years to get our beautifully remodeled tasting room open. Patrons can stop by at any time during business hours to enjoy our unique, hand-crafted wines with a twist by the tasting, the glass, or the bottle for here or to go. We love what we do and hope that you will love our wines as much as we do. Our wines are created to be fun and enjoyable. We hope you enjoy them in the spirit in which they were created.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my greatest accomplishment is being able to share our specialty wines with everyone. To be able to look at our wines after they are bottled and say, "I made that," is a wonderful feeling. It is also a huge accomplishment to say that I own the first and only winery in the city of Las Vegas. As a matter of fact, we are winery number seven in the whole state.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is a lot of pressure on running a small business. If something goes wrong with anything, there is no one else to blame, and usually, no one else to ask how to fix it. I wear many hats on any given day, which can be very stressful. Above all else, make time for yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research, and when you think you are ready, do more research.
  2. Secure your funding before you begin your business. You must have a plan.
  3. Double-check everything. Don't just take someone else's word for it.
