Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laurie Sindlinger, Owner of Pilates One Hundred, located in Hummelstown, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a Pilates studio in Central Pennsylvania where we help clients to build strength, control their movements, and feel better in their daily lives. Our clients represent all age groups.

Tell us about yourself

As a former dancer, I have always been intrigued by movement. I wanted to help others move better, be able to develop strength, and enjoy moving their bodies while exercising or in daily life.

When I hear clients talk about their pain diminishing as they progress in Pilates or gaining flexibility and range of motion, it motivates me to continue growing my studio.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been starting a new studio during the pandemic and watching people enjoy the return to small group exercise sessions. There has been so much value during our in-person sessions, and it has been wonderful to bring on more instructors as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The administrative side of the business has been difficult. After teaching for many hours during the day, it is hard to take care of admin tasks. I am trying to find ways to automate tasks or possibly hire help for some things.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You might not know everything about the business when you begin, but you can start and learn as you go.
  2. You can’t be good at everything it takes to run a business, so find help for areas that you struggle with.
  3. Find a good scheduling tool.
