Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a wellness business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trevor Donald, owner, and physiotherapist at Donald Physiotherapy based in Saskatoon, SK, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Donald Physiotherapy is a leader and innovator in private healthcare by addressing client needs, quality of life & goals through virtual, digital & in-person methods. Our foundation is physiotherapy care, quality service, and trust in a family setting are paramount to everything we do.

Tell us about yourself

I originally became interested in physiotherapy at the suggestion of one of my aunts, a university nursing professor. The more I looked into the profession, the more I realized it was an excellent fit for my passion and interests. My goal each day is to help people improve their quality of life and improve their knowledge about staying healthy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as owners is assembling the incredible team of people we have working with us. We place a tremendous emphasis on client experience and workplace culture amongst our group, and it drives all the decisions we make, including staffing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner is the human resources aspect. It is complicated to stick to your ideals when hiring instead of hiring out of necessity. Sometimes there are difficult conversations and difficult decisions to be made, but they all need to be done with the best interest of workplace culture in mind.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your homework - know your market, understand your challenges, and detail your processes before commencing.
  2. Invest in people - be vulnerable with them, get to know them, and create a positive environment for them to work within.
  3. Have fun - if you do not enjoy what you are doing, how can you expect your staff and customers to enjoy it as well.
